What is Lions ROAR?

Roar is an exciting IDEAS competition for Key Stage 2 students at primary schools sponsored by Lions Clubs and is being run and organised by the IDEAS company 8billionideas. The programme is designed to help schools and children with their PHSE education. It is however much more than that! Children in the nominated schools are challenged to come up with ideas that could change the world for the better….. hence our heading

CHILDREN CHANGING THE WORLD

Schools are nominated and funded by Lions Clubs to take part in the competition to encourage and develop the creativity existing in all students. The objective is to generate and develop an IDEA that could change the World. It could be about absolutely anything, as long as it has a positive impact on the planet.

The competition is structured to hit a number of different areas of the school curriculum, including – PSHE, Citizenship, SMSC and British Values. The students also must work together as a team and exchange ideas with one another to achieve their goal – to come up with a winning idea and represent their school in a District Final.

ROAR is rolled out within the Spring and summer term digitally and every sponsored school will receive a “teacher pack”, before the summer break. The competition starts in September and each school will judge its own winner. An ideal opportunity for Lions from the sponsoring Club to be involved in the judging along with school governors, local dignitaries or local businesspeople.

The winning team from each school will then make a video of their idea, explaining the concept and any problem it may have solved along with the poster, jingle and model they will have created. The video will then be sent to 8billionideas who will send the videos to the appropriate judging panel in each of the 8 districts. The videos will then be judged by Lions or their nominated judges and the winners from each District will announced at the Presentation Awards Day.

The winners from each school will be awarded medals and certificates that will be delivered by the sponsoring Lions Club. Clubs will receive a pack from the ROAR committee in plenty of time.

The District winners will receive medals and certificates and a trophy declaring them as District winners.

The district final will be held in the later part of the Autumn term, and details will be communicated with the schools and sponsoring Lions Clubs.
